Permian Basin Writers' Workshop

ABOUT

Permian Basin Writers' Workshop

The Permian Basin Bookies’ goal is in their Mission Statement: ‘Fostering West Texas writers to inspire the world’. In 2015, to further that goal and to help build a writing community in the Permian Basin, The Bookies began the Permian Basin Writers Workshop; a place for writers to come, network, meet new friends, and learn about the craft of writing.

The workshop has something for every stage of writing, from newbie to journeyman, to the multi-published author. Learn from accomplished experts, pitch to agents, even find critique partners.
Join us this year and be a part of this great community!

Feedback

In our sixth year, Permian Basin Bookies enjoys hosting this annual event for writers just like you. Here are a few attendees offering their thoughts about past events:

The speakers were very high quality, the food accommodations were excellent, and the efficiency and timing reflected wonderful planning and attention to detail.

This is the type of event that, once the word gets out, could become a huge draw for writers in a wide area. I hope it continues.

The session lengths were good - long enough to get across a lot of information, but not so long that we were squirming in our seats. Speakers were excellent! I really appreciated the breaks in between sessions that allowed me to not only get to know the other participants but have some good conversations.

Local experts who have been nationally successful are wonderful.

I was very impressed with the calibre of presenters and the fact they were each very successful in his/her own right. I learned a great deal from the sessions I attended.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY

General Principles

The Permian Basin Bookies seek to provide a conference environment in which all participants and speakers feel safe and are treated with respect. In order to create that environment, harassment of any kind is prohibited.

Definition of Harassment

Harassment includes:

  • Offensive comments related to race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, or religion;
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, inappropriate photography or recording;
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events;
  • public broadcasting of others’ private or sensitive information without explicit consent;
  • Inappropriate physical contact;
  • Unwelcome sexual attention.

Personal disagreements and differences of opinion, even if strongly worded, are not harassment.

Consequences of Harassing Behavior

Participants and speakers are asked to stop harassment are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant or speaker engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate and necessary to safeguard the safety of attendees, including warning the offender or expelling the offender from the conference with no refund, and may be, at the Organizers’ discretion, barred from future conferences.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the harassment hotline. If you are in danger, please contact hotel security or local law enforcement immediately.
